Dr. Nikos Roukounakis is a Chemical Engineer and holds an MSc in Environmental Technology (Imperial College, UK) and a PhD in Geosciences (Ecole Normale Supérieure, France). He has worked as an Energy Data Analyst at the International Energy Agency (IEA Paris, 2005-2008), where he was in charge of commissioning the annual energy balances and statistics of the OECD Member Countries. Since he joined IERSD in 2008 as a Research Scientist, he has participated in a number of national and international research programs and published scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals and conferences. His research interests cover the following themes: a) Energy – climate change: GHG emissions and carbon footprinting. Techno-economic assessment of energy technologies. Climate modeling and climate change mitigation and adaptation. b) Atmospheric pollution – noise: Atmospheric chemistry, air quality, pollution control and dispersion modelling. Monitoring and sampling of air pollutants. Environmental noise monitoring and modeling. c) Urban environment – transportation: Sustainable urban planning, urban mobility and environmental impacts of urbanization. d) Remote sensing and environmental monitoring. GNSS Meteorology. InSAR tropospheric noise correction with the use of meteorological modeling techniques.
