Numerical and experimental investigation of the flow field characteristics and dispersion of pollutants in typical urban street canyons

Scaled two dimensional experiments for different street canyon geometrical configurations in a simulated urban environment were performed with a cross flow triple hot wire constant-temperature anemometer. The effect of heating the street canyon walls was also investigated experimentally. The experimental data were used to validate an academically developed CFD code with the capability of simulating flow with two-dimensional structured and unstructured Cartesian grids.
