High Solar Fraction Heating and Cooling Systems With Combination of Innovative Components and Methods

Development of high solar fraction systems by an innovative combination of optimized solar heating, cooling and storage technologies. In the research phase, examine different configurations and optimize by detailed simulations. Construct demonstration plants, using different combination of technologies, components and control strategies. All demo plants achieve high solar fractions values with a sound economy; for some of the plants more than 70% of coverage for the space heating, domestic hot water and cooling loads. Examine innovative techniques, components and/or configurations (e.g. new storages, use of rejected heat during cooling, combined heating and cooling control etc.) Analyze demonstration plants’ monitoring data, validate simulation and design tools and evaluate the plants’ performance. Carry out market analyses to estimate the potential penetration of these systems in the European heating and cooling market. The sectors of implementation are all medium and large building end-users having heating and cooling loads throughout the year. http://www.highcombi.eu/
