Estimation of the incoming solar radiation on horizontal and inclined planes in the area of Tripolis, for the assessment of the energy performance of a PV electric energy production plant.

The aim of the project is to assess the energy performance of a PV electric energy production plant, which was installed in the industrial area of Tripoli (Peloponnese). For this reason, a modern fully automated actinometric and meteorological station was installed. Besides the basic meteorological parameters, the intensity levels of total and diffuse solar radiation incident on a horizontal surface are recorded, along with the direct component, and the intensity of the total solar radiation incident on an inclined surface of the same inclination and orientation that was chosen for PV panels. The direct component was recorded using an automated sun positioning system and the diffuse one using a shading sphere, according to World Meteorological Organization (WMO) recommendations.
