Mobile Air Pollution and Noise Control Station

Mobile Air Pollution and Noise Control Station

Mobile Station

The Mobile Air Pollution Monitoring Station was developed as part of the EAA’s infrastructure for monitoring air quality, aiming to meet the increasing demand for mobility and flexibility in conducting air pollution measurements in remote or non-fixed locations.

The Mobile Station is equipped with a full range of instruments for measuring gaseous pollutants such as ozone, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide (O3, CO, NO, NO2, SO2), particulate matter (PM10), and black carbon (BC) and its fractions attributed to vehicle traffic and biomass burning (BCff-BCwb), housed in a specially designed and air-conditioned space, along with a meteorological station. Additionally, there is the possibility of installing further specialized equipment on a case-by-case basis (http://apcg.meteo.noa.gr/index.php/infrastructure/mobile-aqms).

The Mobile Station is used for on-site measurement campaigns of scientific interest, for monitoring/mapping pollution levels during pollution incidents such as industrial accidents and fires, and also for providing services in collaboration with local government bodies and private entities upon request. It has been used in the past for on-site measurements on the Egnatia Odos, in Mati after the devastating fire of 2018 to check air quality before schools reopened, and in the city of Ioannina to monitor smog.
