Short-term Forecasting of Intense Rainfall and Flood Phenomena

Nature warns — prepare in time
Service Description and Applications:
✓ Provision of high-resolution short-term (3-hour) precipitation forecasts locally on a 100 km scale, with assimilation of mobile weather radar data into a predictive meteorological model. The website https://nowcast.meteo.noa.gr presents real-time weather radar data from EAA in the wider Attica region and short-term precipitation forecasts with assimilation of radar data into a predictive meteorological model.
✓ Provision of specialized forecasts for precipitation and flood impacts, mainly in urban areas, in collaboration with other scientific and private entities.
✓ Possibility, upon request from the interested party and relevant funding, of installing and operating a mobile weather radar in the area of interest (100 km scale), which will provide data to high-resolution predictive meteorological and hydrodynamic models. Provision of real-time measurement and forecast maps (up to 3 hours) for precipitation and flood risk (water depth and velocity).
The service is intended for:
✓ Civil Protection Services ✓ Local Government Organizations (Municipalities, Regions) ✓ Private and public companies in the sectors of transport, construction, energy and telecommunications, and tourism.
