Service Description and Applications:

At the Laboratory of Atmospheric Chemistry (LAC) of IEAPBA, targeted measurements are conducted for chemical compounds harmful to the environment and public health, with an emphasis on suspended particulate matter. In collaboration with Universities and Research Centers in Greece and abroad, the possibility of analyzing components not included in LAC’s direct analyses is also provided. Samples can also be collected from other areas of interest, if requested due to specific pollution incidents, such as fire, accident, or dust transport events.

Methodologies and Tools Applied:

Samples collected at the Urban Background Air Pollution Monitoring Superstation in Thissio, located at the NOA facilities, are analyzed using modern determination methods, targeting components included in the new EU Air Quality Directive (2024/2881/CE) such as brown carbon and Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS). A variety of instruments are used for these analyses, including spectrometers, ion chromatography, etc.
