Service Description and Applications:<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n

Historical data spanning over a century are provided for a multitude of meteorological and atmospheric parameters for the Athens area (Nymphs’ Hill, Thissio). These data constitute the historical climate archive of IERSD, which is the oldest and most complete historical climate information base in Greece and a valuable tool for calculating numerous climate indices and for studying and understanding long-term climatic and atmospheric changes in our region, across various timescales. Furthermore, historical climate data are widely used for the evaluation and reliability testing of climate models. <\/p>\n\n

The service is intended for:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

\u2713<\/strong> Universities, \u2713<\/strong> Research Centers, and \u2713<\/strong> Public bodies in the country, and are provided free of charge for exclusively research purposes. Methodologies and Tools Applied:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

The historical climate archive includes continuous records from the autographic instruments of the historical climate station of IERSD, which has been located at the NOA facilities in Thissio since November 1890 and operates continuously to this day. The archive also includes meteorological observations for a multitude of climatic and atmospheric variables at various time steps and periods. The archive contains continuous hourly records of the main climatic variables, such as air temperature, maximum and minimum daily temperature, atmospheric pressure, relative humidity, and wind speed and direction. Additionally, precipitation and atmospheric data, such as sunshine duration, cloudiness, visibility, etc., are included. Daily time series of the most important climatic variables are also included in the repository of the National Network for Climate Change and its Impacts (CLIMPACT – https:\/\/data.climpact.gr\/dataset<\/strong><\/a>).<\/p>\n\n
